BBC Network's "Day in the Life" News Segment to Feature Al Shaqab Endurance Team


Doha, Qatar (June 2, 2009) -- Al Shaqab Endurance Department will be featured on the BBC World News Middle East Business Report this Saturday, June 6.

The segment on Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, will profile the intimate daily workings of Abdul Aziz Saleh Al Jabir, an assistant trainer for Al Shaqab's Endurance Department. The story will be televised on BBC World News as the show's "A Day in the Life" profile feature. The segment airs four times a week and captures the day-to-day workings of people in the region with jobs specific to the Middle East.

Produced as part of the BBC World News Middle East Business Report, the segment was started in March 2009, and provides viewers a glimpse of the unique cultural elements of the Middle East. The Al Shaqab Endurance Team gained the interest of the BBC with their success as silver medalists at the World Endurance Championships in Terengganu, Malaysia, last November.

Viewers will follow Abdul Aziz Saleh Al Jabir through his daily regime and learn about the sport of endurance racing, and gain a greater understanding of the daily duties involved in working with both the riders and horses. Throughout the news segment, the concept of team is repeated as Abdul Aziz explains the sport of Endurance riding.

The Al Shaqab Chairman is H.E Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Director is Claudia Starr. The Endurance Department is headed by General Supervisor Owaida Al Hajeri, Manager and Trainer Hadi Nasser Al Ramzani and Assistant Trainer Jabr Nasser Al Ramzani.

The program will run in Qatar on BBC World News Saturday, June 6, at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. KSA. Other tentative listings for the segment include: Friday, June 5, 9:30 p.m. KSA, Sunday, June 7, 9:30 p.m. KSA.
