Equine Advisor

Paul Cunningham

Raised on an English horse farm, with an equine veterinarian father, Paul Cunningham has devoted his life to horses and the equine community. Over the past 30 years, he has gained a wide range of experiences in virtually all aspects of the horse industry. His equine skills have ranged from administrative to participant and include bloodstock management, amateur race riding, polo playing, competing in a World Championship cowboy event and living the unconventional life of a gaucho on the Argentinean pampas.

Prior to Al Shaqab, Paul served as stud farm expert to the Royal Court Affairs of the Sultan of Oman. His equine expertise has been honed in a diverse range of countries that include United States, Great Britain, India and Argentina.

During his career, Paul has designed and developed state-of-the-art equine nurseries, and assisted in creating and nurturing champion equine athletes, including 1984 inaugural Breeders' Cup Classic winner Wild Again and several Eclipse and Cartier Award champions. In addition, Paul spent five years as public relations manager for Great Britain's Animal Health Trust, an equine and small animal veterinary and charitable institution. In this role, he greatly expanded the organization's media exposure and helped raise vital research funds.

As Equine Advisor at Al Shaqab, Paul underscores all he does with the following three basic, but imperative, principles: develop the most equine friendly farms and facilities, endow the horses with both harmony and attention, and provide an environment for the horses wherein nature is the paradigm. His philosophy will help to ensure the health, welfare and contentment of Al Shaqab's horses and enable them to reach their full, world-class potential in competitions, leisure pursuits and international breeding endeavors.
