Zayid Shamis Al Hashmi
With more than 25 years of experience as a horse trainer and international competitor, Zayid Shamis Al Hashmi also brings a comprehensive background in equine management skills to his role as Riding Academy Manager for Al Shaqab. Zayid's impressive career includes top-level success in show jumping competitions held across Europe and the Gulf, including participation in two Asian Games riding with the Omani National Team. Prior to joining Al Shaqab, he was the proprietor and manager of a successful riding school in Oman.
Zayid grew up riding and eventually joined the Omani police force. It was while studying in Ireland that he began participating in dressage and eventing. His focus clearly established, Zayid's passion for horses increased and his show career took off.
Over the years he has traveled extensively to work with top-level instructors, including Olympic trainers, in France, Germany, England and Ireland. Zayid was named Oman's leading rider four years in a row and was responsible for training the Oman cavalry in precision riding for parades and demonstrations. Furthermore, as the Omani National Champion in ten pecking - a timed military maneuver done on a galloping horse - Zayid has demonstrated superb horsemanship skills.
Zayid oversees the Riding Academy's entire operation and especially values the opportunity to enhance the connection between child and horse. Whether playing games or just having fun on horseback, Zayid is proud of his role in helping to develop these young riders that are capable of eventually attaining the highest levels on the international show scene.
His background in cavalry training led to Zayid being named the instructor for Qatar's Emiri Guard Equestrian Troop. His assignment is to oversee and direct the training of the 25 Emiri Guard riders and mounts that will perform at national celebrations and special presentations.
