Mohammed S AlSuwaidi

Equine Education

Mohammed Sultan Al Suwaidi hails from a family whose passion emanates from sports involving horses. At a young age, he started learning to ride at his family-owned farm and stables. In 1996 at age nine, in one of his overseas vacations with his family, he visited a horse farm in Belgium. Thereafter, he developed a stronger bond with the horses. Gaining a deeper interest in the equine sports and having discovered his innate talent in the equestrian field, he continued to train in the different equestrian disciplines of Show Jumping and Endurance. In time, he was selected to be part of the Qatar Equestrian Federation International Show Jumping Team and the Endurance Team of Al Shaqab. The Al Shaqab Endurance Team brought home prestigious awards from different competitions worldwide including the Olympics qualifier in 2007 and the Silver Medal during the World Cup Competition in Malaysia in 2008.

In 2009, it dawned upon him that he needed to develop his personal career. He eventually attended Irvine Valley College in California, USA for his Diploma in Business. Subsequently, he attended Sunderland University in the United Kingdom where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration/Business Management. Upon graduation, he returned to Qatar to establish his own business and help run his other family businesses. It is noteworthy that all through those times, he never set aside his passion for horses and the sports. Moreover, he kept himself abreast with developments in the equine sports and industry.

While making his mark in the business world, his lifetime tenet penned by Ralph Waldo Emerson – “Riding a horse is not a gentle hobby to be picked up and laid down like a Solitaire. It is a grand passion” - paved his full-time return to the equine field. Armed with the acquired skills in the principles of management, he now combines them with his inborn ability as an equestrian. He joined Al Shaqab as the Equine Education Assistant Manager in early 2015.

Propelled by his desire for innovation and change, Mohammed transformed the old recreational riding system into an equine academic system the moment he took over the rein as the Acting Manager of the department. Being the first of its kind in the region, the said academic system generated a buzz in the equine world. Over a three-year period, the system proved effective as it produced talented riders with unprecedented successes in recent local and international competitions.

Mohammed currently serves as the Equine Education Department Manager.
