    His Highness The Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani established Al Shaqab in 1992 to enjoy his passion for Arabian horses, to honor the courageous war horses ridden by victorious Qatari knights of the past, and to assure the Arabian horse would continue to play a leading role in the cultural heritage of the Qatari people.

The premier equestrian competition, which will be held at the spectacular Longines Arena at Al Shaqab, welcomes top-ranking local and international equestrian stars to compete in the Olympic disciplines of Showjumping, Dressage, and Para-Dressage – each rider and horse developing that special bond which enables them to achieve true excellence.

Created in 2013, CHI Al Shaqab is one of only five CHI competitions worldwide, and the first and only equestrian event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia regions. It has evolved to become the most renowned competition on the world’s equestrian calendar.

Through CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines, Al Shaqab aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to promote Qatar as a world-class sports destination, while paying tribute to the country’s rich equestrian heritage.

CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines’ legacy in the past decade is testament to Al Shaqab’s standing as a center of global equestrian excellence and a premier international competition venue, while the festival activities during the event will help provide a memorable experience for one and all.
